Mentors Needed! Lancaster Chamber Mentorship Program

Have you ever had a mentor? Someone who’s in your corner and is ready to lend an ear, a hand, or even a shoulder when you’re not quite sure what to do next?

The Lancaster Chamber’s High School Mentoring Program pairs more than 150 high school juniors with business professionals who can share advice, experiences, and connections as each student begins to think about life after graduation. This all-volunteer program has a waiting list of students who are looking for an opportunity to get real-life, practical information to help them narrow their vocational interests and educational goals. From exploring non-traditional careers to visiting employers to learning how to dress for success, this unique career exploration program is designed to educate our County’s youth about the world of work and our employers about their future workforce.

Hear from a couple of our mentors below:

“This is a fabulous program that provides amazing experiences for participating students (mentees) and adults (mentors)!  For the past 8 years, I have volunteered and served in a variety of roles from being a mentor, an advisory committee member and a program presenter. Each year, I feel personally rewarded as we watch the students become more confident and prepared for their futures. I am thrilled that this program will be returning in the Fall of 2021.” – Janet Treer, President, The Treer Group

“The Women in Business Mentoring Program provides an opportunity to bring businesswomen (of all ages & careers) together with high school juniors. The programs offers a great way to connect and give back to young women in our Lancaster County community and help them to be more confident, as well as navigate their future after high school. I love the interactions with the students, content of the programs, venues, and networking with the other mentors. My time spent volunteering with this program over the past four years has been extremely rewarding and I would highly recommend it.” -Lisa Horn, Director of Fun, Kitchen Kettle Village

“This is a great program that pairs businesswomen and teen girls together for mentoring, job shadowing and leadership opportunities.  I was a mentor for one year and have been a school liaison and member of the advisory committee for two.  It’s so rewarding to see the mentors and mentees work together to realize the mentee’s career goals and to give back to the community.  And it’s very exciting that the program is coming back in the fall of 2021!” – Bobbi Austin, Vice President, Treasury Management Officer at Orrstown Bank
